Successful online teaching: put the student first, remember the goal of education and don't try to replicate the classroom!

Many of the new resources on transitioning to online teaching focus primarily on teaching activities and not so much on the learning perspective. As a lecturer and tutor in Study Skills at the University of Oxford, I’ve seen the challenges that students face under normal teaching circumstances and how these challenges are being exacerbated by today’s abrupt transition to online-only teaching. Here are some of the insights I have gained from my work.

Was Kandinsky a Synaesthete? Examining His Writings and Other Evidence

Wassily Kandinsky is widely regarded as one of the most prominent examples of a synaesthetic artist. However, in the scientific literature there is disagreement on the genuineness of his synaesthesia. This paper investigates whether Kandinsky had inborn synaesthesia, while acknowledging that there are also types of induced synaesthesia which he may have cultivated.
